About tests/scores

As part of an application for admission your institution may receive and review scores from tests such as the SAT, ACT or Advanced Placement. If a student takes the same test multiple times, you can record each independent score.

Separately, you can use test scores as a prerequisite for enrollment in a course. For example, you may offer a math placement test and only students who score a certain score or above may take an advanced mathematics class.

Create test

  1. Go to Admin > Score Headers.

  2. Click New Score Header.

  3. In Type enter a short name for the test. For example SAT.

  4. In Score Name enter the test component or if this represents a composite score the name of the composite score. For example, to record the SAT Math score you might enter Math. To record the overall SAT score combing all SAT sections, you might enter Total.

  5. In Input Order enter a number that controls where the test appears on the student's score input page with lower numbers appearing at the top. For total/composite scores we recommend using 99.

  6. Select Master Flag if this test controls the characteristics of all other tests with the same Type. For example, the master test controls if the test scores are numeric or letters. Even if the scores of a test type don’t sum together, like AP scores, you must always create a master test for the type. You can tell Campus Cafe not to sum the scores by later selecting

  7. Select PreReq Usage if the score can be used to fulfill a class prerequisite.

Configure test

Once you create a test, you need to tell Campus Cafe its characteristics.

  1. Go to Admin > Score Headers.

  2. Select the test and click Edit. (Or you can directly select and clear the check boxes to the right of the test.)

    • Input Order: The order in which the test appears on the student's score input page.

    • Master Auto Calc Total Off: Select to disable Campus Cafe from summing all tests with the same type and displaying a summary row.

    • Master Disable Use: Select to inactivate the test, which will stop its ability to be attached to a student on the student scores page. Previously recorded scores for the test will remain visible on the student scores page.

    • Disable Self Reported Fields:

    • Auto Fill Official Date: Select to indicate that the official date of the scores should be automatically populated with the date they are entered into Campus Cafe.

    • PreReq Usage: Select to indicate that score can be used as a requirement to enroll in a course.

    • Score is Alpha: Select to indicate the test score result is returned as letter(s)or a mix or letters and numbers. For example, A, B4, C140. If selected, Score is Integer and Score is Decimal must be unchecked. The maximum length for a score is 5 characters.

    • Score is Decimal: Select to indicate the test score result is returned as a number with places after the decimal. For example, 10.5, 111.75, 3.14. If selected, Score is Alpha and Score is Integer must be unchecked. The maximum length for a score including the decimal is 6 characters.

    • Score is Integer: Select to indicate the test score result is returned as a whole number. For example, 1600, 1200, 1050. If selected , Score is Alpha and Score is Decimal must be unchecked. The maximum length for a score is 5 characters.

Examples

SAT

The SAT consists of two scores, one for the Reading and Writing section and one for the Math section. The combined, or summed score, is also provided to students.

...

Advanced Placement

The College Board offers Advanced Placement exams in multiple subjects. In Campus Cafe create an umbrella master AP score header and select Score is Integer because AP exams are graded on the numerical scale 1-5. Because AP tests don’t sum together like SAT sections ensure you select Master Auto Calc Off. Then create individual score headers for each unique test.
