alumni finder

Using the Alumni Finder provides a way to you can search for populations of alumni and related individuals that meet certain criteria. Alumni don’t necessarily need to be students who actually graduated. You may consider individuals who completed a certain percentage of your program alumni or those without formal degrees alumni.

Using Alumni Finder

Alumni Finder is available by navigating to Alum/Dev > Alumni Finder or by clicking Filters > Alumni

Refer to People Finder documentation for information on setting criteria and working with results.

Special Functions of Alumni Finder

  • Individuals appear in the alumni finder only if they are marked as alumni

  • The alumni module can search for spouse of alumni. To do so, on the finder click Hide/Show Fields and check Spouse in First and Last Name Search boxes. The first and last name criteria boxes will now search both alumni and their spouses.

  • Setting Custom Control FORMERFIND, Sequence 1, Parameter 1 to Y will cause the Last Name filter to search on both current last names as well as names stored in the former name field of an individual's record.

  • Results may be sent to the Gift Finder to marry

Use Alumni Finder

Search on both current and former last name

A student may change their name during their career with you or after they graduate. If on their profile you record this new name and move their past name to the Former Name, you can tell Campus Cafe to search for both the individual’s current and former name when using the Alumni Finder. This can be helpful if you’re unsure which name is associate with the individual in Campus Cafe.

  1. Go to Admin > Custom Control.

  2. In Search enter FORMERFIND.

  3. Click the pencil.

  4. In Parameter Value 1 enter Y.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Go to Admin > Refresh Data Cache.

Search on individuals and organizations

You can tell Campus Cafe to have the Alumni Finder also search organizations. This is helpful if you have organizations that donate to your institution or otherwise support you. An organization’s name will populate in the “Last Name” column by design - the account’s first and last name fields being empty, the system populates last name with the Employer name field, keeping results aligned.

  1. Go to Admin > Custom Control.

  2. In Search enter ALUMFINDER.

  3. Click the pencil.

  4. In Parameter Value 1 enter Y.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Go to Admin > Refresh Data Cache.

Go to alumni finder

  1. Go to Filters > Alumni.

  2. You can use filters to select the criteria of which alumni to return. To see or hide filters, click Add Fields and select those filters to show. See People Finder documentation for additional details o how to set criteria and work with results.

Alumni finder special actions

Find spouses of alumni

You can use the Alumni Finder to search for the first or last name of the spouse of an alum.

  1. Go to Filters > Alumni.

  2. Under Build Filters click Add Fields.

  3. In Search enter spouse.

  4. Select (check) Spouse In First and Last Name Search Boxes.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. In the First Name and/or Last Name boxes enter the name of a spouse.

  7. Click Submit.

Send results to other finders

After you return a group of alumni, the user can send the results to Gift Finder to connect information on alumni with their donations. To do so,

select a population of alumni shown on the alumni finder, and click Send Selected to Gift Finder

> For All.. Additionally, the user can send the results from the Alumni finder to the Student Finder by selecting a population of alumni from the results, and selecting Send Selected to Student Finder.
