Custom controls, sometimes known by legacy name of MSParms, lets you configure how Campus Cafe behaves. They are separate from STParms that let you control the options you see in drop down menus.

Custom controls comprise three parts:

1. The ProgramID (ProgID) represents the broad item. For example TRANSHDROF lets you control the text that appears on the official transcript.

2. The Sequence Number (Seq Num) divides the ProgramID into multiple blocks of options. For example ProgramID TRANSHDROF, Sequence 1 relates to the transcript for degree level 1. Sequence 2 relates to the transcript for degree level 2, Sequence 3 for degree level 3 and so forth.

3. The Parameter Value is the specific setting. For example ProgramID TRANSHDROF, Sequence 1, Parameter Value 1, holds the text appearing on the transcript in the upper left header.
   Some parameters may require multiple values, often separated by a comma. Some may have pairings when one setting depends on another. For example, you may need to enter something like 01-APPFEE,02-APPFEEWC if you want applicants' fees for site 1 - your main campus - to be recorded with the transaction code of APPFEE and those applying to site 2 - your West Campus - to be recorded with the transaction code of APPFEEWC.

Prerequisites

• Custom controls are tied to functions throughout Campus Cafe. Some control may require you to create or configure other items first. For example, any controls that are based on site will require you create your sites first.

Find custom controls

Campus Cafe documentation will reference specific custom controls. However, if you’re browsing controls, you can do so using the control context.

1. Go to Admin > Custom Control.

2. In Context select the broad area. For example Transcripts. (You can leave # of results at 0, which will return all results.)

Change custom control

Most custom controls are delivered with Campus Cafe. In rare situations, you may need to create a custom control if you need additional options. If that’s needed the documentation will tell you how to add it.

1. Go to Admin > Custom Control.

2. In Search enter the name of the control.
   
   

3. Next to the control to change click the pencil. Ensure you click the pencil next to the correct Sequence (Seq) Number.
   
   

4. You will see all Parameter Values associated with the Program ID, Sequence Number. Ensure you change the correct Parameter Value.
   
   

5. Once you change the value, click Save.

6. Go to Admin > Refresh Data Cache to apply the change immediately.

Example: Set transcript header text

You want to change the text that appears in the upper left header for official transcripts for students in academic programs configured at degree level 1.

1. Go to Admin > Custom Control.

2. In Search enter TRANSHDROF.
   
   

3. Next to ProgramId TRANSHDROF, Seq Num 1 click the pencil. Ensure you selectthe pencil next to Seq Num 1 because you want to adjust the transcript for degree level 1. Seq Num 2 would change the text for degree level 2.
   
   

4. In Parameter Value 1 enter the text you want to appear. In this example we want Barrett University to show in the upper left.
   
   

5. Click Save.
