About real-time billing

You can tell Campus Cafe to automatically calculate a student’s bill as soon as they register. The charges appear on the student's bill but as a temporary charge in the financial module. Once group billing is run, the temporary charges are removed and replaced with the posted charges generated from group billing. These temporary charges do not impact financial aid, which is driven by the cost of attendance.

If you don’t turn on real time billing, charges appear only after you run group billing.

Real-time billing works best if you have simple tuition rules and no or few additional charges. If you have a complex billing structure, lots of registration changes or you bill at discrete times, you may wish to consider keeping real-time billing disabled. This avoids multiple charges and confusing students with a constantly changing balance each time they change classes.

Prerequisites

• Create billing rules.

• Create a registration control record for the semester to bill.

Required permissions

Turn on real-time billing

1. Go to Registrar > Registration Control.

2. Next to the semester to turn on billing click the pencil.

3. Select Temporary Billing Active.

4. Click Save.
