Academics: Find Students by Academic Program (Major) During Specific Semester

Find all students in a specific academic program (major) in a specific semester.

You need to report numbers of students and their demographics or track student progression.

Considerations

  • This filter uses the major on the student’s session data detail. Students can have only one major recorded on this row, meaning this report may not return students with multiple majors on their degree row or those who changed majors in the middle of a semester if you select a major not on their session row.

  • Because the search uses the major on the session data detail, this filter generally won’t return students by their minor, concentration, track or other secondary academic program as that wouldn’t be their primary major.

  • By default, this filter returns all students with session data for the semester selected regardless of enrollment status in that semester. You can change this by adjusting the filters.

Start with a pre-built filter

This filter updates overnight or when you launch the GPA processor.

Use this as a starting point. You can add fields to further narrow students returned.

If you don’t see this filter your institution may have renamed or modified it. You can build it from the example below or open a Campus Cafe support ticket and request it.

  1. Go to Filters > Students.

  2. In All Users select ZCC STUDENTS BY PAST PROGRAM.

  3. Click Filters.

  4. Next to the top Session Row click the three horizontal lines, select the semester and click Apply.

  1. Next to Session Row Major Code click the three horizontal lines, select one or more academic programs and click Apply. This searches the student’s session data major. A student can have only one major on their session data row meaning your results may not include all students in the selected major because some students may have multiple majors on their degree row.

  2. Next to the first Single Semester click the three horizontal lines, select the academic period for which you want to return enrollment/registration, credit and GPA data and click Apply. This semester is typically the same semester you selected in Session Row.

  3. In the first Single Semester Credits Taken enter the minimum number of credits a student must be enrolled in during the selected semester. Entering 0 means students your results will include students in zero-credit courses if you have them.

  4. Click Submit.

Add criteria

You can further narrow your results by selecting Add Fields, searching for the field name and selecting it.

  • Site Code to narrow the results to only students at a specific site. Your sites may be physical such as different campuses or program-based such as a day program and a night program.

Build results

You can show additional information alongside the results by selecting Column Visibility, searching for the field name and selecting it.

  • Single Sem Credits Taken shows the total number of credits the student attempted this semester.

  • Single Sem Credits Earned shows the total number of credits the student passed this semester.

  • Single Sem GPA shows the student’s semester GPA.

  • Gender, Home State, Racial Background Decoded to show demographic information.
